“Travel is fatal to prejudice” ~ Mark Twain
Children and childhood. Add foreign places and that is Fundance - a collection of films that celebrate global diversity and the stories of young people in those places.
Beginning life in 2004 as the Fundance Foreign Film Festival, a weekend-long event at Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT, our mission was to promote and deepen our students’ awareness and sensitivity to the worldwide community. We sought films with unfamiliar settings and leading players who were the same ages as our children. We sought to provoke curiosity; and we hoped to create a sense of connection for our children with their foreign peers.
The website, Fundance Foreign Films, features our many movie titles appropriate for a multitude of opportunities. For schools, we are available to tailor programs to complement curriculum. For communities, as well as schools, we can create assemblies for learning, entertainment or fundraising. Our intention will always be the same: open minds, stir hearts, and discover the sameness that links us all together.
